Turntable Tea Party - Gary Clark Jr.

Turntable Tea Party - Gary Clark Jr.

Did you know that Mike has an online record store? He's been collecting records, and musical knowledge, for over 30 years. It's his side business, along with his regular day job and helping at the shop on weekends! Music and vinyl are his passion the way this shop, herbs, and Wunder Budder are mine.

We love that we're able to work together on a (mostly) monthly event: Turntable Tea Parties!

Turntable Tea Party is a listening party that features a specific record, and we'll share a special release tea that goes along with the album we feature. Join us in celebrating music, tea, and community. Come for the whole event or come whenever you can. Meet new friends or spend time with old ones!

Mike will be setting up a mini pop-up record shop with copies of the record we're playing each month, plus more by the same artist, and some related "you may also like" type albums for sale.

Can't make it in person? Each month you'll find a listing here on our website for the record we played that month and a 1oz bag of special release tea to go along with it, so you can have your own personal listening party at home.

Friday April 5th is our third Turntable Tea Party! It goes from around 6pm until around 8pm, with this month's record going on the turntable around 6:15pm. This month we're celebrating the release of Gary Clark Jr.'s newest album, JPEG RAW

Mike and I discovered Gary Clark Jr. at the 2018 Newport Folk Festival. Someone else's set had just finished, and I was hot and anxious and needed to get out of the crowd. As we were working our way away from the stage, his music captured us.

This was the dramatic progression of me hearing him for the first time:

"Omg, I'm going to die if I don't get into the shade and away from people for a little bit"

"Wait, this is really good, I think I can handle one song"

"This is amazing, let's move closer"

His music totally distracted me from the anxiety I was feeling, and before his set was over, Mike had found us tickets to see him again. We both fell in love with his music that quickly!

While I know listening to a record isn't going to have the same result as hearing him play live, I do hope that we'll be able to introduce his music to new fans, or hear his newest album for the first time with existing fans.

Reservations aren't required, and you can drop in anytime, but if you know for sure that you're coming, let us know. I hope to see you there!

Xo,
Lisa
