Daylight Saving time ends in a couple weeks (Nov. 2nd @ 2am)!
We get an extra hour of sleep, and the sun will be setting when our clocks read one hour earlier. In combination with the reduced amount of daylight hours as we move towards winter and the darkest months, this shift is when a lot of people start feeling emotionally run down, or even in cases of SAD, clinically depressed.
If this is you, I encourage you to try embracing the darkness this year!
(this is not to make light of SAD - "just be happy" doesn't cure clinical depression)
Take advantage of the extra time in darkness and find ways to enjoy it instead of fighting against it. If we think of the year like a moon cycle, the dark months are like the time around a new moon. This is a good time for introspection, and to make plans for the spring and summer. A good time to set your intentions for the upcoming seasons, and start "planting seeds" of ideas and changes to make.
Embrace "indoor activities" and read more books, learn a new crafty hobby, cook and bake, or catch up on any TV and movies you missed while you were enjoying the sunshine. Even just sleep more! Or, find ways to spend more time outside by taking evening walks around your neighborhood, or moonlit walks in nature during a full moon.
Whatever you choose to do, look at it like you are embracing the darkness and the indoor time instead of missing the summer and time in the sun.
Little shifts in thinking can make a huge differences in our lives.
